 Théâtre de la Ville

 





The Théâtre de la Ville is one of the two theaters built in the 19th century by Baron Haussmann at Place du Châtelet, Paris; the other being the Théâtre du Châtelet. It is located at 2, place du Châtelet in the 4th arrondissement. In the past the theater bore the names Théâtre Lyrique, Théâtre des Nations, and Théâtre Sarah Bernhardt. The theater was designed by the architect Gabriel Davioud for Baron Haussmann between 1860 and 1862. It was burnt down in May 1871 during recapturing of Paris by Versailles forces at the end of Paris Commune, but it was rebuilt in 1874 on the same plans.The theater has been known at different times under the names Théâtre Lyrique and Théâtre des Nations (since 1874), before taking its name (in 1899) after the renowned actress Sarah Bernhardt, who produced there from 1899 for nearly two decades. During the German occupation the theatre reverted to the name Théâtre des Nations, because of Bernhardt's Jewish ancestry.


WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance)




              
             
 Womad was founded in 1980 by Peter Gabriel, Thomas Brooman, Bob Hooton, Stephen Pritchard, Martin Elbourne and Jonathan Arthur.[1] The first WOMAD festival was in Shepton Mallet, UK in 1982. The audience saw Peter Gabriel, Don Cherry, The Beat, Drummers of Burundi, Echo & The Bunnymen, Imrat Khan, Prince Nico M' barga, Simple Minds, Suns of Arqa, The Chieftans and Ekome amongst others performing. Since 1982 WOMAD Festivals has traveled all over the world, bringing artists to numerous locations and entertaining over one million people.
                                       
Musiques Métisses

For dedicated fans of today's African music, it's hard to imagine a festival anywhere that tops Musiques Métisses, an annual spring event in Angoulême, France for over two decades now. The festival's artistic director, Christian Mousset, began the event as a jazz and blues festival in 1976, but in the early 1980s, it began trending towards African music, and has never looked back. The stages of this festival have seen the first performances outside Africa for an impressive list of legendary artists that includes Salif Keita, Cesaria Evora, Bembeya Jazz, the Super Rail Band, Jaojoby, Rokia Traoré, as well as the first appearances in France by the Mahotella Queens, Johnny Clegg, and Thomas Mapfumo.

  The Calgary Folk Music Festival







The Calgary Folk Music Festival (also known as "Calgary Folk Fest") is held in late July each year at Prince's Island Park, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. While known for attracting both established and up-and-coming folk music, the festival features a wide variety of artists including hip-hop, alternative, blues, and world acts. Over 60 artists play across seven stages (one main stage and six side stages). The festival also features an extensive arts market, beer gardens, family area, as well as a wide array of local food and beverage vendors. The Calgary Folk Music Festivals attracted nearly 50,000 people in 2009. Its success and acclaim is largely attributed to the kindness, dedication, and hard work of its 1300+ volunteers.




Vancouver Folk Music Festival


 





The Vancouver Folk Music Festival is an outdoor multistage music festival. It takes place annually, on the third weekend of July. Founded in 1978, this annual festival uses eight outdoor stages, located at Jericho Beach Park on the west side of Vancouver, British Columbia. In the past it has attracted artists from all over the world and from all walks of life, including Ani Difranco, Utah Phillips, Tuvan Throat singers, Sarah Harmer, Veda Hille, Feist, K'naan, and Ferron, among many others. In recent years, the festival has added more hip-hop and spoken word to the standard collection of singer-songwriters and ethnic musicians.


                              Berwaldhallen








Berwaldhallen is a concert hall in the Östermalm district of Stockholm, Sweden. Construction on the building began in 1976 based on a design by architects Erik Ahnborg and Sune Lindström. Since opening in 1979, Berwaldhallen has been home to the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, one of Stockholm's two major orchestras, as well as the Swedish Radio Choir. Berwaldhallen is named after Franz Berwald one of Sweden's foremost composers of the 19th century. On the grounds of the concert hall is a sculpture of Berwald by Swedish artist Carl Eldh.

 
Theater aan het Vrijthof




 




Each year the Theater aan het Vrijthof presents numerous festivals that aim to present the outstanding artistic qualities of performing arts in the city of Maastricht. By doing so, the Theater aan het Vrijthof strives to promote Maastricht as a city of culture and to stimulate the debate in the city. The theatre also hosts the finest national and international performing arts on an almost daily basis - a wide variety of theatre, dance, music, cabaret, musical theatre and youth theater.




   Ateliers d’ethnomusicologie (ADEM)

Founded in Geneva in 1983, the Ateliers d’ethnomusicologie (ADEM) is a cultural association dedicated to world music and dance. Throughout the year, the Ateliers offers concerts and festivals, lessons and courses, as well as activities for young people. The Ateliers also produces books and CDs and supports migrant musicians who live in the region. The Ateliers organizes numerous concerts and theme-based festivals every year. The Ateliers is also involved in various events in the region’s cultural life, including the Fête de la Musique. Most of the concerts are often complemented by films, audio-visual documents and conferences. more info The Ateliers coordinates more than 50 world music and dance classes. In addition, the association also organizes several workshops with guest artists, and notably, since 1995, the Croisée des cultures, a large multicultural event that takes place at the beginning of summer.     The Foundation for the Culture of the Future












The Foundation for the Culture of the Future was established by the Swedish Government in 1994, and was allocated capital amounting to 529 million Swedish kronor. The purpose of the Foundation, which will exist for at least ten years, is to financially support long-term and innovative cultural projects, thus stimulating regional culture in a wide sense. One of the underlying aims of this is to encourage economic growth and development in the regions. In pursuing this aim, the Foundation will eventually use up its capital. In view of the time limit on its existence, the Foundation will not help fund what can be regarded as operational costs. Nor will it finance, or in any other way assume responsibility for, activities that have had their content or funding reviewed as a result of changes in the public sector.




    L'école de musique Vincent-d'Indy
 




L'école de musique Vincent-d'Indy is a subsidized private music college situated in Montréal (Québec, Canada) in the Outremont district, that specializes in music education. The school has its origin of program of musical studies begun by Sister Marie-Stéphane (Hélène Côté) in the school of the Congregation of Sisters of the Saints Name of Jésus and Marie (also known as Collège Jésus-Marie) in the 1920s. In 1932, the foundations were made for the École supérieure de musique d’Outremont, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts at the Université de Montréal. Middle and late 20th Century The school adopted its current name in 1951 on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the French composer and pedagogue Vincent d'Indy. The Vincent-d'Indy music school offered, up until 1978, a university program in music.



 The Samuel Jordan Center for Persian Studies and Culture








 The Samuel Jordan Center for Persian Studies and Culture serves as an umbrella organization for various activities related to the study of Iran and the Persian world at the University of California, Irvine. Courses, offered by the affiliated faculty, are the backbone of Center’s academic and pedagogical mission. These include courses on language, literature, history, music and culture at undergraduate and graduate levels. The academic courses are administered through different Departments. The Humanities Language Learning Program offers courses on Persian language. Courses in ancient, medieval, and modern Persian history are administered by the Department of History. Courses on modern Persian literature and the literature of Iranian diaspora are offered through the Department of Comparative Literature, and courses on Persian music are housed within the Department of Music. There will also be occasional offerings in Avestan, Old Persian, Parthian, Middle Persian (Pahlavi) languages.



  The Rosendale Theatre Collective







 The Rosendale Theatre Collective is dedicated to preserving the historic Rosendale Theatre and enhancing the cultural life and economic vitality of Rosendale and Ulster County through film, the performing arts, and educational programming. As of August 19, 2010, The Rosendale Theatre Collective is now the owner of the Rosendale Theatre!




The Iranian Association of Boston (IAB)








 Established in 1989, The Iranian Association of Boston (IAB) is a non-political, non-religious organization and has no affiliation with any political or religious organization. The Iranian Association of Boston is dedicated to promoting the cultural and social understanding of Iran. IAB is deeply committed to meeting the needs of the growing Iranian and Iranian American community. The organization strives solely on volunteer involvement.




 




Alwan for the Arts serves the Arab community and educates the broader public by showcasing a range of cultural events, thereby enriching the cross- cultural and artistic encounter. Alwan is committed to maintaining a space for reflection, dialogue, and growth in the arts and cultures of the peoples of the Middle East, North Africa, and the diaspora. Since 1998, Alwan for the Arts has played a leading role in promoting the diverse cultures of the Arab countries in New York City. Alwan organizes film festivals and screenings, book/poetry readings and signings, lectures and conferences, art exhibits, musical and theatrical performances, and language and literature classes. In 2003, Alwan established a center in lower Manhattan which provides a physical base for its diverse cultural activities.
